Hi, everyone!
Welcome to Group 42's online progress blog! Here's where we'll be posting assignments, information, and updates on our project design, manufacturing, and eventual competition performance. For now, here's an overview of our design as it stands after the Mid-Term Design Review.
Strategy Selection
The strategy we chose to employ in creating our design was that of moving the balls over to the other side of the arena in medium-sized groups. This strategy was chosen by using a comparison table against alternative strategies. One of these strategies involved moving all the balls over to the other side of the arena at once (and then acting defensively for the rest of the competition), and the other involved collecting the balls in an external hopper and then driving them to the other side at the end of competition regulation time. Our team believed that the strategy chosen will be the most effective in performing the tasks required to win the competition.
Concept Selection
The concept we selected was that of a rotating arm attached to a moving cart that can move back and forth across the arena slot. This setup maximizes the mobility of the machine, making it the most effective in moving balls over to the opponent's side. This concept was chosen over two other concepts (one with a moving arm attached to a stationary machine and one with a stationary arm attached to a moving cart) using the comparison table method.
